Deputy Chief of Police
Colonel Brian Carney
Colonel Carney has worked in law enforcement for over thirty years. He is a former Chief of Police and the current President of the American Board of Forensic Document Examiners. His forensic experience brings a unique and valued asset to the City of Duluth. He started his career in law enforcement in the military and was a CID Agent in the USMC and later a Special Agent in the U. S. Army Criminal Investigation Division.
Colonel Carney also completed the two year training program in Forensic Document Examination at the U. S. Army Criminal Investigation Laboratory. He has worked as a line Officer in the DeKalb County Police Department and as an Investigator with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office. Colonel Carney has an Associate in Science Degree and a Bachelor of Arts Degree.
